Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), we only set non-essential cookies with your consent.
When you first visit, a cookie banner asks for your choice. You can accept or refuse non-essential cookies. You can change your choice at any time through the cookie settings link on the site. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
We use these types of cookies:
- Strictly necessary cookies. These make the site work and remember your cookie choice. They do not need consent.
- Analytics cookies. We use Google Site Kit, which adds a Google tag (gtag.js) to the site. It helps us see how visitors use the site. These cookies only run with your consent.
- Advertising cookies. Google AdSense uses cookies to show ads and measure them. With your consent, these ads may be personalised based on your interests.
For more detail, see our Cookie Policy.
Advertising
We show ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites. If you do not consent, Google may still show non-personalised ads. These use limited cookies for things like fraud prevention and frequency capping.
You can learn how Google uses data at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. You can manage personalised ads at Google Ad Settings.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links, including links to Amazon. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission. The retailer may set a cookie to record that you came from our site. The retailer handles that data under its own privacy policy. We do not receive your personal details from these purchases. See our Affiliate Disclosure for more.
Our contact form
Our contact form sends your message to us by email. We do not store form entries in the website database.
The form uses Google reCAPTCHA to block spam. reCAPTCHA collects technical data about your device and how you use the page. Google processes this data under its Privacy Policy and Terms.
Our email newsletter
Our sign up forms on posts are provided by Kit (formerly ConvertKit). When you sign up, Kit stores your email address for us and sends our emails. Every email has an unsubscribe link. You can unsubscribe at any time.

- HostGator, our web hosting provider

International transfers
Some of these providers, such as HostGator, Google and Kit, process data in the United States. Where data leaves the UK, these providers rely on approved safeguards. These include the UK Extension to the EU US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep your data
- Contact form messages: we keep these in our email inbox for up to 24 months, then delete them.
- Newsletter data: we keep this until you unsubscribe. We then remove it within a reasonable time.
